Order processing FAQs

Can I purchase a gift?
Yes. Go to the ‘products’ page and select your chosen armband/subscription option. If you purchase a subscription, a subscription code will be sent to the email entered during the checkout process. Forward this email to the recipient who can activate it when they are ready as part of the registration process.

Can I use a Ki Fit Armband without a subscription?
A subscription is necessary for the Ki Fit to function correctly. Before you use the Armband, it must be registered to an account which is set up through purchase of a subscription code. Once you have registered and are wearing the Armband you will need to upload the data at least once every 14 days to your personal online account; this will allow you to view graphs of your data as well as make use of our extensive UK food database where you can enter your daily meals, and track your weight loss / weight gain journey. All our Ki Fit Armbands are currently sold with a subscription included. You can choose from a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription. Visit our products page to view the various products we have on offer.

If my subscription lapses and I don't renew, do I lose my data?
If you wish, you can take a break between subscriptions without losing your data. When a new subscription is purchased and the code entered into your existing account (via the 'extend subscription' link on your account page) it will then become active again and all your past data will be available to you.

How do I purchase multiple Ki Fit Armbands?
If you want to purchase multiple armbands you may purchase as many as you like. You can do this on the ‘My Basket’ page by adjusting the value in the ‘quantity’ box and selecting ‘apply changes’.

How do I purchase multiple Subscriptions?
If you want to purchase multiple subscriptions you may purchase as many as you like. You can do this on the ‘My Basket’ page by adjusting the value in the ‘quantity’ box and selecting ‘apply changes’. You will be sent one email containing all the subscription codes. Pass one subscription code to each of the recipients who can activate it when they are ready as part of the registration process.

How do I cancel my Subscription?
We understand various reasons exist for you to cancel your subscription, but please note your subscription can only be cancelled at the end of the term of the contract. If there is anything Ki Performance can do to retain you as an ongoing user, please let us know. However, if you are ready to cancel your subscription please indicate that when opening a case online from the contact us page.

Which cards can I use for the pay-monthly packages?
When purchasing any of our pay monthly products please be aware that we only accept VISA (credit or debit) and MasterCard for these payments.

Does the subscription start from the date I purchase?
If you are purchasing the Ki Fit for your own use or as a gift, please be aware that the time on the subscription will not start ticking down until the user enters the subscription code during the registration process. The subscription code(s) will be emailed to you on purchase, however you will not lose any days should you not activate straight away. As soon as the code has been entered and registration completed, the account will become active.

When registering my account, I'm getting a message saying 'That subscription code is invalid or has already been activated'. Why is this?
If you see this message, it is highly likely that the code has been entered incorrectly. When entering the Subscription code please be aware that some of the digits are easily mistakable for numbers and vice versa. We recommend that you copy and paste the code from the email directly into the registration form making sure that there are no extra spaces before or after the code. If these messages continue to appear then please attempt to ‘login’ as it is possible the account has activated successfully. Should none of the above work please contact customer services.

Armband FAQs

How does the Ki Fit Armband measure how many calories I burn?
The armband contains multiple sensors that measure motion, body heat, skin temperature and conductivity. A proprietary algorithm “crunches” the collected information and the user’s personal body parameters to deliver accurate information on activity, steps and calorie burn.

How does the Ki Fit Armband measure how I sleep?
The armband contains multiple sensors that measure motion, body heat, skin temperature and conductivity. A proprietary algorithm “crunches” the collected information and the user’s personal body parameters to measure the amount of lying down time and sleep time.

Where should the Ki Fit Armband be worn?
The armband should always be worn high on the triceps area of the left arm, with the sensors touching the skin and the logo facing up.

Can I wear the Ki Fit Armband on my right arm? Or upside down?
Algorithms analyse the armband data to estimate your calorie burn. Those algorithms have been written to give optimal performance when the armband is worn on the left arm, the right way up. The "right way up" has the logo closer to your shoulder and the lights closer to your elbow. We do not recommend wearing it on the right arm or upside down. If the armband is worn on the right arm or upside down we expect calorie burn values may show a difference of up to 8% for routine activities like resting, walking, running, household work and road biking. The differences can be significant when using certain exercise equipment.

How do I remove the armband from the strap?
To remove the Ki Fit device from the strap you need to be aware that the device ‘pops’ out of the back of the black rim. Therefore make sure you are not pressing the device onto a surface and that your fingers are only on the rim and not under the actual device. With the Ki symbol facing you hold the black rim in both hands and press firmly on the right hand side of the grey device. When putting the device back into the black rim, ensure that the USB port on the device is lined up with the indent on the rim before applying pressure to the back of the device.

How do I know the Ki Fit Armband is collecting data?
If you're wearing the armband correctly, it’s probably collecting data. To check that the armband is on, press the status button. You should hear an “A OK” beep; this sound confirms the armband is collecting data.

What is the average battery life in the Ki Fit Armband?
The battery will last approximately 5 to 7 days before requiring a recharge. Topping up is better for a prolonged battery life rather than completely draining and then charging.

How long will it take to charge my Ki Fit Armband?
The armband battery will go from dead to fully charged in approximately 3 hours. When charging the Armband please make sure it is plugged into a computer which has not gone into hibernation mode. If the computer enters hibernation mode the device will stop charging.

Is the Ki Fit Armband waterproof?
No, the armband is not waterproof, but it is water resistant (rated IP64.) You should not submerge or perform water-based activities, such as swimming or bathing, while wearing it.

Can I wear my Ki Fit Armband in a sauna?
Yes, it is safe to wear the armband in a sauna. However, because of the extreme conditions found there, we cannot confirm the validity of the results.

I have a known metal allergy, should I wear the Armband?
For all known skin sensitivities and metal allergies, please consult your doctor prior to use of the Armband. A list of Armband and strap materials is provided below.

What materials are used in the Armband?
Armband: ABS, polycarbonate, thermoplastic polyurethane, 304 grade stainless steel Stainless Steel #304 content includes: Chromium 18%, Nickel 8%, Manganese 2%, Silicon 1%, Carbon .08%, Phosphorous .045%, Sulfur .03%
Armband Strap: Nylon, polyester, Lycra (no latex content)

How many days of data collection memory does the Ki Fit Armband have?
The armband can store up to 14 days of data when worn continuously.

Do I have to wear the Ki Fit Armband all the time? What happens if I take it off?
The armband will fill in calories for any time you were not wearing it. This data will be an estimate based on your body parameters and previous activity. But the more you wear the armband, the more accurate your values will be.

Can I wear the Ki Fit Armband for workouts only?
The system is designed to be worn all day. You can wear the armband during workouts only, in which case for best results we recommend wearing it for at least ten minutes before and after your workout.

Is it possible to mute the sounds on the Ki Fit Armband? What about the display?
You are not able to mute the audio on the armband. The armband will make sounds when the battery or memory are running low, when a reminder goes off, or when you press the status button. On the display, you can mute the button-press beep by holding down the light button until “beep off” is displayed. However, you will still receive audio notification when you achieve your targets.

What are the Ki Fit Armband’s operating temperatures? I live somewhere very cold!
Minimum and maximum operating temperatures are 5°C to 40°C (40°F to 104°F). When the temperature outside falls below
5°C, the armband should still function correctly if it is on your arm and you’re wearing appropriate clothing for the temperature.

Can I take my Ki Fit through airport security and on the plane?
There will be no problems when taking the armband or display through airports or scanning equipment. The display is the same as any digital watch and you will not need to remove the battery from it, just keep it in your hand luggage rather than wearing it through the security scanners. The armband is only ‘on’ when being worn so consider it off unless it is on your arm. As with the display, just keep the armband in your hand luggage. Neither the armband nor the display will be thought of as a safety threat so feel free to travel with them. Please be aware however that the Armband should NOT be worn during any flights.

What is the proper way to clean the Ki Fit Armband?
You should always clean and dry the armband if it becomes noticeably moist or dirty.
To clean the armband, gently wipe the ‘skin side’ with a soft cloth or towel moistened with mild soap and water. Wipe with a clean damp cloth to remove any remaining soap. Use a dry, soft cloth or towel to dry the armband completely before wearing it. Never use solvents to clean the armband!
To clean the strap and wing, hand wash with mild soap and warm water, rinse, then air dry. Machine drying may affect the performance and lifespan of the strap.
The armband may need to be disinfected occasionally. Wipe the entire armband with a soft cloth dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Allow the armband to dry for 5-10 minutes before wearing it. Always disinfect the armband and replace the strap prior to use by others.

Display FAQs

Will the Ki Fit Display work without the Ki Fit Armband?
The armband and display need to be used together. However, the display will work as a watch without the armband.

I just received my Ki Fit Display and started wearing it today. Why is there information displaying for yesterday?
The armband keeps track of the display information for today and yesterday. If you've already been wearing the armband and then get a display, the armband already knows the correct values to send to the display.

How often is the Ki Fit Display updated?
The display receives your armband data once per minute while synchronised with the armband. All data (calories, steps, activity etc) is updated at the same time.

I've noticed a slight difference in the values for calories, activity and steps between my Display and the Activity Manager. Is this expected?
The Activity Manager runs complex statistical algorithms that take the Armband data and compute your calories. In addition, historical data personalises this calculation even further. If you have a Display you will have seen up to the minute calorie values displayed. The Armband contains a miniaturised set of algorithms that can calculate calories and send them directly to the Display every minute. The full power of the web server is required for the most complete analysis of your Armband data, and small differences can occur in the calories between the Display and the Activity Manager. Wearing the Armband UPSIDE DOWN is the leading cause of Display/Activity Manager mismatch. If you wear the Armband on the left arm the 'right way up,'' with the logo toward your shoulder and the lights toward your elbow, the daily calories shown on the Display and the Activity Manager will match within 5%, usually within 1%.

What is the proper way to clean the Ki Display?
You should always clean and dry the display if it becomes noticeably moist or dirty.
To clean the display, gently wipe with a soft cloth or towel moistened with mild soap and water. Wipe with a clean damp cloth to remove any remaining soap.

How can I add activities that I did when not wearing my Ki Fit Armband?
You can use the‘Edit Off-Body’ function which can be found on the Calories Burned graph. To see your Calories Burned graph, click on the white triangle to the left of the ‘Calories Burned’ bar (on the Dashboard) to drop this section down – the 'Edit Off-Body' link is in the top left corner. (Please be aware that the edit off-body function will only appear if the device has been off-body for more than 20 minutes during the waking hours selected in your User Profile). Here you can add activities during the times when you were not wearing the armband.

To use this function:

  1. Click on the ‘Edit Off-Body’ link.
  2. Select the time period in which you want to enter an activity from the ‘Off Body Detection’ drop down box (this lists all the times that the armband detected it was ‘off-body’).
  3. Select the ‘I was not active, except for the following’ option from the ‘Assume…’ drop down box.
  4. Select your activity from the drop down boxes below, e.g. ‘Sports >>’, ‘swimming >>’ and then a more specific activity type/intensity if applicable.
  5. Select the duration of your activity session and click ‘Add >>’ to add the activity to the ‘Selected Exercises’ box.
  6. Once you’ve added all the activities you completed during that specific time period, click ‘Save’ to add these to your Calories Burned graph (any minutes not accounted for will be counted as resting).

How can I track my calorie consumption?
You can track your calorie consumption by using Daily Food Logging or Nutrition Assessment. You have the flexibility to choose the method that matches your lifestyle. Daily Food Logging allows you to record each meal, every day, viewing details about micronutrients and macronutrients. You can compare daily caloric intake against the calories you burn that day. The Nutrition Assessment allows you to assess three days of caloric intake and use that average to guide your goals - avoiding the need to log each meal every day. You can select the calorie consumption method by setting your preference on the Resources Tab

Will I lose data if I switch between Daily Food Logging and Nutrition Assessment?
No. You’re free to switch between methods without worrying about losing data.

How often should I complete a Nutrition Assessment?
We recommend you complete one when you are updating your goals and targets, or when you need some feedback on not achieving your desired goals. You can complete a Nutrition Assessment as often as every three days.

When I finish my Assessment, will my goals and targets be automatically updated?
Completing an Assessment will not automatically update your goals or targets.

Can I print or export my Nutrition Assessment?
No, not at this time. However, when using Daily Food Logging you are able to print and export detailed food log data.

Why can I only select certain days for my Nutrition Assessment?
When completing a Nutrition Assessment you may only log food for one of the last seven days.

How many past Nutrition Assessments can I see at one time?
You have access to the five most recent Assessments you’ve completed.

What is "Sleep Efficiency"? Why don't I have 100%?
If you wear your armband while you sleep, it calculates “sleep efficiency.” This is the ratio between sleep time and lying down time. Adult efficiency levels are typically in the 80% to 95% range, and decrease with age.

Are days midnight to midnight?
Your calories are counted "daily" from midnight to midnight. However, it makes more sense to report on your sleep mid-day to mid-day because sleeping usually spans midnight. For example, the sleep reported on Wednesday is from mid-day Tuesday to mid-day Wednesday, covering one whole night of sleep.

What is BMR and how do you use it?
BMR stands for Basal Metabolic Rate, and is the number of calories someone would burn in a 24-hour period if they were completely at rest, but not sleeping. It is the measure of the total energy used by the body to maintain the body processes necessary for life. BMR is influenced by a number of factors including age, weight, height, gender and fitness level. There are several classic equations used to estimate a person's BMR, and a similar measure Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). Ki Fit doesn’t directly use BMR or RMR to calculate your calorie burn, although they are used indirectly.

What is BMI, and how do you use it?
BMI stands for Body Mass Index, and it’s calculated by dividing a person’s weight (in kilograms) by their height (in metres) squared. The BMI equation is the established method for classifying healthy and unhealthy body weights, and is the basis of the medical definitions for people being underweight, normal, overweight and obese. It’s promoted and supported internationally by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The BMI scale is not perfect, particularly for people who are at the extremes and those who work out and build a lot of muscle. The classifications "underweight, normal, overweight, & obese" are defined and fixed for adults, while children and teenagers have their own classifications that change over time. Ki Fit doesn’t directly use BMI to calculate your calorie burn, although it is used indirectly.

What are METS and AVG. METS?
The energy cost of an activity can be measured in units called METs (metabolic equivalent). 1 MET is the energy expenditure for everyone "at rest". Two people resting will burn different amounts of calories, but they both burn 1MET.
You can think of METS as a multiplier of calorie burn. You burn 1 MET when you are at rest, and an activity that takes 3 METS burns approximately three times as many calories. Mild exercise (such as walking at a leisurely pace) increases energy expenditure to approximately 3 METs, while vigorous activity might require 6 METS.
The Online Activity Manager shows your calorie burn and "AVG. METS". This stands for "Average METS". Calorie burn is individual to you, while METS can be compared between people.

Can I adjust the thresholds for my moderate and vigorous activity levels?
Yes, you can adjust the thresholds to match your lifestyle and goals by setting your preferences on the Resources Tab.

I have reached a goal and would like to set a new baseline weight value.
We are working on adding a mechanism to do this. Until that feature is released, you can effectively do this by selecting "Log Health Measures" from the summary screen. Then select your registration date and adjust the weight value. This will modify the baseline used in the system. The same can be done for the first day you entered a waist circumference value.

What are Personal Bests?
Personal Bests represent the history of each time you achieved a new record high for some of the most popular measurements tracked within the Activity Manager. You'll be notified each time you reach a new Personal Best.

How do I change how frequently I am reminded to enter my weight?
By default, the system will remind you every two weeks to enter your weight. This can be customised from the User Preferences page where you can choose to be reminded once a week, every two weeks, once per month, or can turn off the weight reminder entirely.

Can I share my account?
A Subscription can’t be shared by multiple users. The account begins to personalise itself with the user during the first upload, and the more you use the system the more personalised it becomes. If several people share an account, the results will be skewed. The graphing and trending will also be affected if a number of people are uploading to the same account.

How do I stop the security warning window appearing in the Activity Manager?
When using Internet Explorer, some users will see a window appear containing the following message: 'Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?' You can prevent this window appearing by following these steps:

  1. On the Internet Explorer menu, go to Tools -> Internet Options and select the 'Security' tab. These options may vary slightly depending upon which version of Internet Explorer you are using.
  2. Click the ‘Custom level...’ button.
  3. Scroll down to the ‘Miscellaneous’ section and change 'Display mixed content' to Enable. Click 'OK' and apply the changes.

Please be aware that we take no responsibility for any problems that occur as a result of making these changes to your computer settings.
